As a tutor I am both excitable and flexible, as well as a great advocate for focused, diligent classes. Learning with me will begin with an initial conversation to establish how best to go about your training.
This initial conversation would consist of establishing concrete goals for your training with me, with a detailed analysis of what skills need to be focused on to achieve these aims. We shall go over your history in order to determine what your skill level is, examine all forms of performance to establish what style and content you are interested in, and create a flexible curriculum based on our discussion. I believe that all classes should be carefully tailored to each student’s unique needs. This initial class will be free of charge and not only gives me as your tutor a chance to get to know you better as a student, but also gives you a chance to decide whether or not you would like to take classes with me.
Classes from that point on will always begin with a warm up. Depending on what your interests are, this could be anything from a game, a dictation exercise, or a professional vocal warm up. From there we will begin a series of exercises that will be dictated by your goals. This might be working on a certain monologue, practicing decoding Shakespeare, working on character-building exercises, or working on an audition monologue. Leaving ample time for feedback between exercises, classes will usually end either with a reflection exercise, which could be written or verbal, or another exercise to solidify or clarify the intentions of the exercises engaged with during the class.
