At the start of the sessions I’ll gauge the areas the student struggles most with and agree on a plan with the student to work on them. Then most of the work will be doing some questions together, then independent work and going through the answers with me. Maths is best learnt through practice and asking as many questions as you need to which is why I don’t follow strict structures in my sessions to allow what the student is finding hard lead what we do. I’m happy to work through work books that the student already has or use my own resources. Overall I aim to develop a trusting relationship with the student so they feel comfortable asking questions and for clarification as this is when the most learning happens. I add a fun spin on topics much as I can to encourage more reluctant students and provide alternate ways to remember content that is tailored to the students individually. My sessions will be on zoom where I will screen share questions and go through diagrams using the whiteboard tool. The sessions are highly interactive with the students helping talk through concepts with me as well as doing questions.
