Hi my name is Charlotte and I have been a primary school teacher for 11 years, specialising in upper key stage 2 Maths, Reading and writing and tutoring year 5 and 6 pupils in preparation for SATs. I am currently working part time as a year 5 teacher in a suffolk school.
Good teaching and learning happens when there is mutual respect from both the teacher and learner. Ensuring each child feels happy and safe and getting to know the pupil and understanding their strengths and weaknesses to me is very important to me.
I try and ensure my sessions are fun, enjoyable and relaxed and follow the same format so children get used to how a session would be run.
A typical lesson would involve firstly finding out prior knowledge using retrieval skills. Then introduce a new learning concept through effective modelling and scaffolding using a my turn, our turn, your turn approach to ensure they are confident and have the tools to complete their learning. A lesson would then allow time to practice their new skills. A challenge if appropriate is always added at the end of a lesson to apply their skills in different ways.
Lots of talk is important and effective questioning throughout a session will ensure I know how the child is progressing and where to go next to move learning along.
Please do get in touch if you would like more information or feel I would be a good fit to help your child.
