I have 3 years experience working with primary aged students as a teaching assistant and I am currently in my final year of a primary education degree with the open university. My main role has been supporting children with identified special educational needs learning needs within mainstream classrooms, differentiating learning to support their understanding of the national curriculum. I have extensive experience of working with autistic children both professionally in school and hospital settings (prior to working in a school I worked as a senior care assistant in a children's hospital) and personally, as I have two autistic sons who have both got their own individual learning challenges.
I have used a multitude of different techniques, child dependent, to support individual children's educational and social and emotional needs. These include the use of makaton and widgits to develop communication skills both verbal and non-verbal. Learning through play to support a multitude of different areas of need. The use of both written and visual learning to support different areas of the curriculum. Basically, learning is needs based and each student is different and I enjoy getting to know the child as an individual and building on their learning in the best way for them.
Please feel free to contact me via phone or email to discuss specific targets surrounding your child's development of their academic and social and emotional needs, I am happy to support targets set by individual educational plans, EHCP's and also to help with the grasping of difficult concepts and catch up work.
Lessons will be tailored to the needs of the child, I firmly believe that in order to be a successful learner, individual needs have to be taken into consideration, therefore a discussion will need to be had with parents to understand exactly the needs of the child to succeed and then some sessions need to be arranged with the child in order to build up a rapport before learning can begin.
Lessons can be delivered online and also in your own home (area dependent).
I do not use or condone the use of ABA techniques.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.
