I believe in helping my students understand the processes behind many of the concepts and ideas that they learn about. This means i prefer not to just say the answer, or explain the term, but discuss and contextualize the ideas, helping the student advance their own knowledge and understanding through experiences, examples and references from their own lives. I also try to turn away from much of the teaching methods that i experienced at school, where there was a lack of open conversation and relation of experience. Instead, i want to create an environment of reflection and critical thinking, where the student can challenge me and quiz me! creating an environment of 'Intersubjectivity' (a great sociological term by the way!) I also like to have fun whilst learning, and try to introduce this to my students as well, i want people to enjoy the subject and not feel like it is an obstacle or barrier that they have to overcome.
