Hi, my name is Charlie and I would like to be your French teacher. The lessons I offer are very targeted to helping you pass your exams and as a result improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Typically for beginners it can be intimidating learning all the rules of grammar, conjugation and Sentence structures. However, penning down these rules in simple easy to understand ways, all fitting in a complete context is how I’ve learnt to become proficient in the language.
To improve vocabulary, it can also feel daunting. The advantage native speakers possess is that they can think in the language they speak in. However for everyone else, we think in our native language (eg. English) and have to translate the words to French as we listen or speak. As a result we listen and speak slower which makes us feel and sound less sophisticated than we are. This is improved by practice, by familiarity and by confidence to make mistakes when speaking.
All in all, my lessons are very practical and very targeted to passing the exam. I believe that by going through the rigour of an examination, the process pushes you out of your comfort zone and gives you the disciple to learn what you must to pass. When I studied to obtain my A* in French IGCSE, I had a French teacher who never spoke English and would even resort to sign language over simply telling us what she needed in the language we understood. When learning a new language, there’s no better place to be than outside your comfort zone.
