I have taught General Science and Elective Biology in both Junior and Senior High Schools since 2024 till now which I have gained a lot of experience in teaching of General Science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) and Elective Biology. In my teaching, I adopt different methods such as demonstration, lecture, discussion, field trip and others. For example, teaching importance/functions of blood in Senior High School biology.
The lesson is introduced by asking students relevant previous knowledge about the topic like:
1. What is blood?
Expected Answer: Blood is the connecting tissue made up of 45% solid (red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) and 55% liquid (plasma).
2. Mention the composition of blood.
Expected Answer: 1. Red blood cells (Erythrocytes)
2. White blood cells (Leucocytes)
3. Platelets (Thrombocytes)
4. Plasma.
Now I will assist the students to come out with the importance/functions of blood.
Importance/Functions Of Blood
A. Blood is used as transport.
1. It transports oxygen in the form of oxygenated blood from the lungs to the cells. (erythrocytes)
2. It transports carbon (IV) oxide in the form of deoxygenated blood from the cells to the lungs. (erythrocytes)
3. It transports digested food (glucose, amino acids, fatty acids and glycerol) from the ileum to the cells. (plasma)
4. It transports hormones (adrinaline) from the place of production to the target organ. (plasma)
B. Defence
1. It fights against diseases. (leucocytes)
C. Prevention
1. It aids blood clotting. (thrombocytes)
D. Reproduction
1. It erects penis and clitoris during copulation. (plasma)
