I prefer one on one study experience where I can see the work the students doing and I also like to provide them to with home work to be able to increase their practice.
I believe the textbook methods need breaking down and understanding of numbers is the base for understanding mathematics .
I provide questions from the basic level and make them gradually more difficult to find the different places a student struggles and identify their individual weaknesses and then provide guidance to get through those difficulties, this means the student will encounter all areas he or she may find difficult thus making the topic fully covered and the students understanding of the topic complete.
I also provide guided presentations to easily teach difficult topics breaking down the what how and why of all methods used in textbooks making sure they are thorough on the topics.
