I am a qualified teacher, holding a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) with QTS in primary education. Currently, I am working for the local music service as a specialist piano, keyboard and woodwind teacher, providing working one-to-one basis and with small, large and whole-class groups of children. I have completed my master’s in Musicology and am studying for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) award in ludomusicology (video game music research).
Significant achievements and practice experience have marked my journey in music. In 2021, I was awarded a First-class BMus(Hons) degree in music from the University of Huddersfield. With over 17 years of experience in music, I teach Piano, Keyboard, Clarinet, conducting, Music reading and Music Theory. I also tutor Primary-level Maths, English, and Spanish. I have much classroom teaching experience in both KS1 and KS2 environments and A-levels in Music, Maths, and Spanish.
My university years were enriched by piano lessons with RNCM's Sally Ann Macleod. I have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 standard in piano and clarinet and ABRSM Grade 5 in music theory. In 2018, I was honoured with an organ scholarship from Salford Cathedral. More recently, I was awarded 100% funding to study for a PhD, specialising in how medieval identity is constructed in video game soundtracks. My life is a mixture of music teaching, researching and organ playing – which I love!
I hold an Enhanced DBS and offer the convenience of online tuition. Please note that in-person lessons are only available within a FIVE-mile radius of SK6 and may incur a travel fee. I encourage you to check my lesson availability before contacting me.
From beginners to advanced learners, I bring the joy of music into every lesson. Whether it's preparing for exams or simply enjoying the process, my lessons are always fun, relevant, and engaging.
I began teaching online during the COVID lockdown in 2020. Currently, I teach more online piano students than in-person – they prefer its flexibility and convenience. Also, younger children do so many clubs these days that an online lesson is easier to fit in! I have successfully taught all ages and abilities online, so please don’t worry about concentration attainment etc.
