My name is Catherine, and I am a passionate, communicative team-player who enjoys challenging, new opportunities. I have extensive experience in Education, and I am currently finishing my MSc (Masters of Science) in Education, Public Policy, and Equity. I am also a recent graduate of the University of St Andrews with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Comparative Literature (Joint Honours). While I have extensive experience tutoring both online and in-person, I also have an extensive volunteer record where I have learned how to tailor my teaching and communication style to my students. I completed over three hundred hours of community service helping develop children's literacy in my local community prior to University, and over four hundred hours of community service completed in my various roles as class representative, school president, and society president at the University of St Andrews.
From my past experiences tutoring and being tutored, I have learned to tailor my lessons to my student's learning style and needs. This means that our first lesson would comprise of getting to know each other, finding out how you learn best (ie audio-visually, auditory, etc.), your goals for our lessons, and creating a manageable learning schedule together. I firmly believe in including my students in their own learning process, so they understand not only why they are learning a certain concept, but how it will lead to their primary goals of comprehension. No one should be left in the dark, especially in an educational environment!
After our first lesson, each subsequent lesson will begin with a learning overview, where each concept we will cover will be broken down in my student's preferred learning style. I am keen to relate my lessons back to materials or topics my student is interested in, so I often like to develop lessons that have passages or topics featuring pop culture!
Whether you need to prepare for an upcoming exam, improve your reading comprehension, write an essay, or just need an extra hand, I am here!
