I first ask the student what they like drawing, which artworks they admire, and what they would like to be able to draw that they find difficult now. I would show various people's drawing work on the internet to give them ideas and inspiration. I would use an A3 sketchbook and a variety of media , such as ordinary lead pencils, blue and black push pencils, coloured aquarelle pencils, charcoal, acrylic inks etc. We could also use ipads if that is possible, with Procreate. If the student was open to it, would do portraits, basic figure work, and still life setups to start off with. I would use books to explain the structure of things like hands, feet, animal shapes (such as horses, big cats etc). I would look at perspective. I would do a variety of speeds of sketch, such as 5 mins, 10 mins, 20 mins, 45 mins etc. I would use different techniques such as cross hatching, negative space shadow work, contour line drawing, and sketching without lifting the pencil off the paper. I would enjoy the lessons as I would be drawing too!
