My students are key to how I run my sessions; each session is unique depending on what content we are tackling and how I think that students work best. I work from interactive PowerPoint slides with students, to produce lessons focusing on subject content, past exam questions or a mixture of both. I find this reinforces learning really well and provides a way to apply and use information, to secure it within long term memory. Plus, it is good for exam technique. I prepare by looking at students specifications and creating personalised checklists, as well as using past practice questions and my own notes. I think it's important to draw directly on specification details to keep learning focused and ensure we cover all content in an organised and targeted way. To help students achieve their goals I think its important to encourage questioning, and allow them an environment where they can "shout out" to keep our dialogue open. To measure progress, again, I use exam style questions and quick quizzes frequently to see how we are getting on. I remain flexible with what content we are covering; I'm always happy to move on to different topics, tackle homework questions, or tricky concepts students might have been given within their school work. I keep my sessions positive and relaxed, so students feel comfortable to approach me with any challenges they are finding with subject content. I love hearing how my students are finding sessions, and always do my best to adapt from there!
