Hello, future Oboists!

I’m excited to share what my oboe lessons are like! Each lesson starts with fun warm-up exercises to get our fingers moving and our minds focused. I’ll introduce new skills or pieces step-by-step, and you’ll have plenty of practice time with my guidance. We’ll review what you’ve practiced during the week to see your progress and tackle any tricky spots together. To make learning fun, we’ll play musical games and do activities that help reinforce what you’ve learned.

In our lessons, you’ll learn basic techniques like holding the oboe, making your first sounds, and reading music. We’ll start with simple songs and gradually move to more complex pieces. You’ll also develop your listening skills with ear training and learn basic music theory to understand the music you’re playing.

I believe in creating a positive and encouraging environment where you feel comfortable and excited to learn. We’ll celebrate your achievements and work through challenges together. My goal is to make each lesson enjoyable and rewarding, helping you build a strong foundation in oboe playing. We’ll go at a pace that’s right for you, ensuring you feel confident and happy with your progress.

As someone who is new to tutoring, I will be growing and evolving my teaching skills along the way, and with each tutor session not only will I improve my ways, but I will help you expand your knowledge and skill levels! Even though I’m new to tutoring, I’m passionate about music and love working with young students. I have spent the past two years mentoring pupils in my county’s Intermediate Orchestra on various instruments, including the oboe! I’m committed to making our lessons fun and engaging.
