I am studying architectural engineering at Nottingham University. I have achieved an A in maths A-level and an A* in GCSE maths. I have lots of experience with children from babysitting jobs, a large family with many younger cousins, as well as tutoring children in varied age groups. This includes helping a year 5 student prepare for his Wandsworth exam and a year 11 student preparing her for her GCSE exams.
I have a visual learning approach to teaching children as I have found it helps keep them engaged in the lesson and interested. I also find using real life examples helps students imagine a different approach to their difficulties.
I use online resources which I will show to students so they can use in their spare time if they want extra practice or help.
I organise lessons based on the students need. I will initially ask them to show me how they would go around answering different topic questions and see where they struggle, as well as communicating with them to know where they think they are struggling the most. I ask students to show me their homework and past exams to see the level of maths they are working at which allows me to give a better lesson for their knowledge. I will initially start my sessions with a couple of questions from different topics fin their specification to understand their methods and to be able to help them with a more effective method. I also ask what method they have been taught in school as students can get confused if they’re being taught too many different methods.
