As someone who recently did my exams, I remember how nerve wracking they are, and how impossible it can feel to do well despite your best efforts. I aim to make the process more simple and alleviate some of your fears by breaking down the content into different skills which can be learned.
I will teach you how to critically analyse literature, demystify correct spelling and grammar and guide you on how to write an outstanding essay, whilst still allowing your voice to shine through - essays are so much more than the basic blueprint we're told to follow in school.
I ask that before each session you let me know what you'd like to focus to give me some time to prepare, but the sessions will be mostly led by you, so that they can be as helpful as possible for you. I aim to provide a relaxed, encouraging environment in which you feel comfortable exploring and voicing your own views and opinions of the texts - remember, there is no wrong answer in English, just different interpretations that need to be backed up by evidence. Personally, I am a big fan of using discussion and debates in my sessions, as an English essay should, at its core, essentially be an argument that you are having with yourself - the best kind, because you always win!
By doing this, I hope that I can help your confidence and proficiency in English grow, and fingers crossed make you love English as much as I do!
