If I was teaching English for non natives, as a foreign language, I would analyse their speech patterns, grammar and vocabulary knowledge before making a plan suited to their ability.
Speaking and grammar instruction would be combined, so would listening, writing, comprehension, so the student can get an immersive experience.

If I was teaching German, my 2nd language, I would focus on pronunciation and use of language, before getting to deep into grammar and compare how the language is written compared to English- the structure is really interesting compared to English, but there are similar words.
