Hi, my name is Candaice (pronounced as 'can-deese') and I graduated with a Masters of Science (MSci) in Mathematical Biology at University of Dundee. I first fell in love with maths during my Scottish Highers (AS/A-level equivalent) when I was introduced to the application of calculus and algebra to scientific processes. Despite the interesting knowledge gained from this, I believe it is pivotal to provide a strong base knowledge of maths and biology before entering in higher levels, such as Highers/A-levels and uni.
From experience in tutoring and personal learning, I have noticed not many students understand the “why” or “how”, which is an area I can deliver and help achieve in students learning.
Additionally, I have been a SEND tutor for a year now, encountering students with ASD, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Dyslexia.
I am patient, friendly and will go beyond to guide and build confidence in their subject area.
A typical lesson will have the following structure:
· Starter questions ~ 5 mins (to jog memory, check understanding from previous lessons)
· Main topic introduction ~ 5-10 mins (duration depends on topic)
· Examples ~ 2 mins (demonstration of method and application)
· Worksheet type questions ~ 15 mins (independent work with regular review and support where needed)
· Past paper questions ~ 15-20 mins (familiarise/practice exam questions – how they award marks, problem solving, A mark questions)
· Review ~ 2 mins (review overall lesson, reinforce their understanding, queries and discussion for upcoming lesson)
