I always like to start my learning, whether it's tutoring someone else or self tutoring, with a quick brain warm up with some relatively simple questions on a range of topics that I have learnt previously. Then the lesson would begin with an introduction to the topic and walking through a few example questions, going through the first question with full guidance, the second question with some guidance, the third question with minimal guidance, and the learner would attempt the fourth question on their own without guidance. If the learner ever gets stuck or confused at any point, I always listen to where they got confused and why before breaking that part down further to try and consolidate their understanding on how it works, whilst providing one or two examples as well to aid with this. I tend to see that this helps with others that I have helped tutor in areas that they previously didn't understand, but after further aid through this method, they more times than not, fully understand that segment of the method. I always like to keep the lesson engaging and fun as it helps to keep the learner engaged within the session and can help with retention of the information if they are more active and participative within the session. I like to throw in practice questions, which can range in difficulty from consolidation to higher difficulty questions to try and push the learner further within the topic. I sometimes also incorporate fun activities when possible to keep the sessions fresh and avoid them becoming monotonous and losing focus and concentration within the session which would lead to a poorer learning quality and a poorer understanding of the content covered within the session.
