I am an enthusiastic young man who studied at the Chetham's School of Music and Royal College of Music comfortable writing for Orchestra, Pop and Rock outfits.
I love music with every bone in my body and want to work with people who feel the same way!
My teaching methodolgy is very simple: what do you want to learn and how can we get you there?
Composition is the most amazing skill, but it is hard. This is why I like to prioritise the student's goals.
Then I work backwards, I find pieces of music that reflect the student's ambitions, and we begin to study these. Good artists borrow, great ones steal as the saying goes.
We will break down the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic content of each work, trying to connect these traits of the music to the expression it achieves. We then consider the form and instrumentation of the work, as these qualities are very important to understand how to compose (this is true for a symphony or for a pop song).
I am a socratic teacher, expect me asking you lots of questions! I want all my students to internalise their curiousity and their ability to resolve said curiosity for themselves. After learning form me, you will be able to:
Understand any piece of music
Extrapolate the abstract principles that govern its style and its expression
Translate these principles into your own work
Badabing Badaboom, you're a composer!
