My training methods are to encourage the student in a relaxed and comofortable setting where we can work together to identify relative strength levels in different areas of the subject, and then work through weaknesses as we find them. My philosophy is learning by doing, so students can expect to be practicing a lot of writing in different contexts, with me providing feedback throughout the process and then providing an overall feedback at the conclusion of the writing. I believe that a combination of feedback throughout the writing process gives the student enough confidence that they are the on the right track, and general feedback at the end to recap weaknesses and talk through how they could improve for next time, is the ideal recipe for improvement.
Lessons will be largely the same regardless of whether they are in person or online, and depending on the relative strength level of the students writing, lessons will either look like a lot of writing for the student with consistent feedback, or slideshow presentations to explain concepts walk through examples. I also believe writing skill is best expressed with topics familiar to the student, which I will do my best to appeal to. For example, if a student is really into sports, then we can talk and write about the sports they are passionate about. This will give them the best opportunity to write coherently about a topic they are interested in, and will therefore give us more accurate writing to examine and deconstruct.
I consider myself to be a fun, friendly tutor that will get along great with both students and parents, but who also strives to help students achieve their potential.
