My name is Calum, I've been working as a touring and recording musician for the last 7 years now. I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Musicianship and a Diploma in Popular Music Performance. I have been playing for just over 12 years at this point and have always enjoyed helping others learn. I have been teaching on and off for the last 5 years, and teaching was a part of my degree. A big goal of mine is always to get people excited about playing guitar or bass, no matter the skill level!
I prefer to teach in more practical contexts. When I was learning, I was super unmotivated by learning a note at a time, drilling scales to a metronome and feeling like I wasn't making much progress. I have always found that learning within a practical context has always been the best way to go, and learning more about the theory side of stuff as it comes up. I am also more than happy to tailor each lesson to the students needs, whether you want to learn how to shred or play some jazz standards - I'm happy to help get you to where you want to be with your playing!
We can discuss what it is you are hoping to get out of each lesson, and will re evaluate often to ensure you are making good progress, and that you are happy with what you are playing. Learning and practicing tracks and parts will be a large part of the lessons, and each week we will aim to look at a new track to keep things moving. I am happy to provide suggestions or use an example that you are particularly keen on learning!
