I have been teaching humanities subjects for over seven years, with a mixture of in-person and online settings. I have also been teaching English as a foreign language online since 2021, so I am adept at online education.
I use Zoom for my lessons. Images and the whiteboard are common features of my lessons. I try to make them as interesting as possible to keep the student engaged.
My lessons are usually divided into four main sections: the warmup, the presentation, the practice, and the performance.
The 'warmup' is something small to start the lesson with to help you get into the mood for learning the topic - often a game of some sort.
The 'presentation' involves me presenting the main content of the lesson. This is the meat of the lesson, because it is where you will actually learn new information about the topic. Images and drawings are utilised to make this part as engaging as possible.
The 'practice' involves going over a variety of questions about the content that has just been taught, to help solidify the information and to make sure that you really understand it and are able to reproduce it accurately. But instead of being like a mini-exam, this involves me helping you and guiding you through the questions to the degree necessary, somewhat like a conversation.
The 'performance' involves you using what you have learned and applying it in a more realistic way. This will help the information to be more deeply entrenched in your mind.
