I started learning Chinese when I moved to Taiwan and was completely immersed in the language. After living there for two years and getting a pretty good handle on the language I returned to America where I continued to study Chinese at university. This being my experience I really understand the difficulties as an english speaking native trying to learn Chinese, from the differences in reading and writing in characters, to the speaking in tones. In addition to my Chinese experience I also have had experience at teaching in university and with younger children ages 6-16 in both a one-on-one style and also classroom setting. Due to these experiences I have the unique abilities perfect for helping others to master a difficult language such as Chinese.
My goal as a tutor would be to help the student on a individual needs basis. I would design lessons to coincide with lectures or coursework to help students to excel in exams. I can help students feel confident about knowing what to say on their study abroad or holiday in China. I plan on doing this by seeking to understand each students needs and working with them to set goals and making plans to achieve those goals. Setting goals is important to me because it allows for a measurement of improvement, it allows the student to see just how much they have progressed.
My vision as a tutor is to take something complex, like the language of Chinese, and simplify it so that it is easily understood for anyone at any level.
