I am currently a third year Economics and Accounting student at the University of Edinburgh, with a passion for helping others understand maths! I left secondary school with an A in both Higher and National 5 maths, and have continued to develop the skills learnt in these subjects at university in modules such as "Statistical Methods for Economics" and "Topics in Microeconomics", both of which including important subjects such as calculus, algebra, probability, and arithmetic.

During my time at secondary school, I sat alongside students in National 4/5 classes, taking them step-by-step through challenging problems and concepts, which has allowed me to develop key skills that I can use effectively during one-to-one tutoring sessions with students, such as effective communication, active listening, problem solving and, arguably most important, patience, which is essential to becoming an excellent tutor. As well as this experience, my brother is currently studying toward achieving National 5 maths, which has given me the opportunity to answer any queries he may have. We have revisited concepts he has found particularly challenging during class, using a mixture of materials, before completing worked examples together and allowing him to complete problems independently.

During lessons when approaching a difficult topic, I believe it is key to ensure that students understand the basics - taking it back to this topic in its simplest form and solidifying understanding in this, before working through examples together, and letting students complete questions independently in these topics, increasing difficulty as we progress through the topic.
