I provided English and Math tutoring to young children in Key Stage 2 on a 1-1 basis. Young pupils are ‘vulnerable’ because they have specific special care, support, and/or protection needs because of their young age. From this experience, I have learnt how to speak to more vulnerable clients and adapt what I am saying to my target audience.
I planned content and arranged lesson structures. I also came up with and instigated end-of-lesson tests in order to measure tutees’ learning and track their progress.
Through exploring different ways of explaining lesson content in an accessible manner to pupils and ensuring their understanding of the content, I have strengthened my communication skills. This experience is useful because it demonstrates taking an analytical approach towards work.
I repeatedly explained the same syllabus points to ensure the student’s full understanding. I understood the responsibility of being positive and encouraging in the tutoring process. Through this, I saw the importance of working in the best interests of my students.
