Since completing my training year, I have worked in varies teaching positions including teaching in Further Education. Working as a biology teacher and a lecturer in FE sector have equipped me with extensive knowledge in my subject area. I taught students across KS3 and KS4, and KS5. This has provided me with a breadth of knowledge in the secondary science syllabus especially in Biology.
I am confident with my ICT skills within the classroom, both as a teaching tool, through imaginative PowerPoint presentations and interactive white board use, and as a learning tool through planning lessons. My strengths were identified as well-structured and well-planned lessons during teaching observations, and I have a habit of self-reflecting on my lesson planning after each session that I taught. Developing strategies of differentiation in order to meet the needs of all abilities of learners is another area of significant strength in my teaching.
I studied Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Science with Open University which enabled me to understand adolescents’ brain development and psychotic disorders in adolescents and early adulthood years. I am now equipped with skills to recognise mental health issues in adolescents and young adults and treatment techniques to support and help individuals whom may be suffering anxiety due to the exams and meeting deadlines.
