As for my working experience, I worked at Yildiz Technical University, Modern Languages Department in Istanbul for 20 years as a tutor on EFL, EAP, Study Skills Courses. Also I delivered the following different courses in fall and spring terms; Business English, Translation Studies, Research Methods, Academic Reading & Writing, Listening & Speaking, preparation courses for the international exams namely IELTS, TOEFL, PTE. During those years, I taught students at different levels of linguistic competence and from a range of cultural backgrounds as there are students coming from European, Arabic and Asian countries by student exchange programs at universities. Besides working as a tutor, I took a role as a material and test developer in the department. I worked as a EAP test developer for 9 years. Also, as a team we were reproducing course materials each term to meet students’ needs. My MA thesis was on alternative assessment tools and from then on formative assessment and creating different materials & activities to see students’ learning performance have become my real concern. Furthermore, being a speaking examiner in Cambridge ESOL exams -YLE,KET,PET,FCE- has enlarged my perspective in marking process. As for my experience in the UK, I worked at UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON, Pre-Sessional Programme, teaching EAP for Pre-Masters as an Academic Reading & Writing Tutor in 2019 Summer, which was brilliant experience for me. Then in October 1st I started at DOCKLANDS ACADEMY in London as a Director of Studies (DOS) having both academic and administrative duties such as launching and pursuing online provision in English Department right after the covid outbreak. I also instructed Research Methods, Academic Reading & Writing, Personal and Professional Development courses in the HE department in the same institution. And lastly, I took a role as Academic Listening & Speaking, Reading & Writing Tutor for Pre-Masters at UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON, Pre-Sessional Programme 2021 and 2022 Summers.
Since the primary objective of Education is to enhance one’s abilities for his future, I try to facilitate my students with critical thinking practices to maximize their higher-order thinking and get them to take effective role in all walks of life. With this sense, I usually apply ‘Flipped Learning Model’, which provides dynamic, interactive learning environment where the I guide students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. It also allows me to combine our traditional experience with new innovative learning technologies that have the power, in my mind, to democratize learning. I encourage students to ask questions and investigate their own ideas to help improve their problem-solving skills as well as gain a deeper understanding of concepts.
