The First Lesson (or prior to the first lesson if possible) will consist of baseline assessment for me to understand what academic level the student is at, and to judge strengths and weaknesses. Future lessons will begin with a short recall quiz on topics from the previous lesson, and an introduction to the topic being studied in the lesson today. This will be followed by a clear and concise explanation of the topic with worked examples, starting off simple and progressively getting harder. These will only move on when the student has completed several examples independently. At this point, one of two things will follow: the student will be assigned further examples to demonstrate their understanding and to increase their confidence OR the student will be given past exam questions to test their application on the topic studied in the lesson. This will usually be towards the end of the lesson, and I will answer any final questions about the topic, and assign the student a homework task to complete for the next tutoring session. We will then mark this homework together at the beginning of the session. Each lesson going forward will generally follow the structure above but exploring different topics, however I will also be receptive to suggestions and requests from both the student and the parent.
