My lessons aim to provide a very deep understanding of the concepts and ideas at work in a particular topic, and so I will typically prioritise developing that over simply ceaseless practise. Answering questions, solving problems and doing exam practise are all very important to succeed academically of course, however that can only come after a student's knowledge has been built up and they have a level of confidence in a particular topic. Another important factor for success is feedback. Knowing how to improve and what to do is just as important as putting in the effort to improve, and being a one-on-one tutor I will use every opportunity to highlight key gaps in understanding or flaws in exam technique and use that to help my students improve to a much greater extent. I have a lot of experience in mathematical and physical problem solving; in 2024 I achieved grade 9 in my GCSEs for both, as well as gold in the British Physics Olympiad and merit and best in my School for the Senior UKMT Kangaroo. I can pass this on to my students and so on top of reinforcing their ability to apply skills they learn in their lessons better, I can further their problem solving abilities which are crucial to achieve top grades and help them beyond just GCSEs. Moreover, discussion of ideas is an excellent way to learn to express one's understanding of a topic, even in maths and physics , so most lessons will begin with this before putting pen to paper when my students can use and test their recently developed understanding.
