Benjamin Cowburn

I am a creative, supportive, and adaptable teacher from the UK. Teaching English Language skills in the UK, Europe, and Asia has given me a wide range of experience in universities and language schools. This variety has given me a broad perspective on learning and communication, and I'm passionate about creating engaging and effective learning experiences for diverse audiences.

I have taught learners of all ages, in groups and individually, with a focus on English for Academic Purposes (EAP), communication skills, and Business English. I enjoy developing courses, lessons, and materials, providing constructive feedback, and adapting my approach to meet the specific needs of each learner. I'm a firm believer in creating inclusive learning environments, and in challenging learners to think laterally, critically, and reflectively.

Working with students to develop their writing and speaking skills has shown me that communication is most successful when it is direct, concise, and accessible. My writing experience and interest in literature has helped me support learners in creating clear and persuasive writing; my drama background has proved invaluable when encouraging students to become confident and engaging speakers. I also enjoy using online tools to enhance learning and unlock learners' creativity and curiosity.

One of my favourite aspects of teaching is working closely with small groups and individual learners: helping them to shape their work, develop their skills, explore ideas about future careers, and navigate their way through educational and personal challenges. I have studied counselling and coaching techniques, which I have found invaluable when working with learners in individual tutorials.
