I would definitely emphasise time on students solving problems and answering questions themselves. However, to foundate this it would definitely be of benefit to teach content while providing examples to give an illustration of how to practically tackle questions. Learning theory and reading content is one thing, but being able to answer questions using this knowledge is a completely different ball game and I would definitely place a lot of attention on practical questions in order to provide the best support to students in answering exam questions. I would conduct the lessons on a topic-by-topic basis which includes content and practical questions, as mentioned, to deliver a coherent, chronological, and dynamic learning process which ensures full understanding before moving on to the next topic. This would help to avoid confusion and help to build on prior knowledge to support new learnings. Swaying from one topic to another would impair the ability of students to grasp concepts fully so I believe the chronological approach would be the most suitable. Having said this, once all content has been learned and the student feels confident, I would engage in exam practice questions for the student to test their comprehensive knowledge on the subject in order to see what needs to be addressed for a second time. This would put their understanding and knowledge retention to the test and ultimately, they would also be able to learn skills vital for exams such as exam technique, working under time constraints, and showing working. Overall, this experience would help them gather a comprehensive understanding of Accounting to help them succeed in exams.
