My focus is on the student and their needs first and foremost. It is private tutoring so there is no point teaching the topic as a whole. Students respond best when they feel at ease so I like to have fun and a laugh.

The key is that I'm not just talking at them. They need to talk about their knowledge so that we can pick up gaps. I want to be able to talk to the student in a way they don't feel they can to parents or even their teacher. I want us to be equals and don't ever want them to feel bad about their ability.
If a student is really uninterested or unable to grasp the course, it's about maximizing their potential and not trying to force them to be something they're not.
I may create PowerPoints or documents for students if I think they'll provide useful info for them to reconcile, but these may also comment on specific points they need to improve. As I say, it's not talking at the student, it's a dialogue and learning together. I don't think mainstream education allows this and so the point of my tutoring is to provide what mainstream education cannot and hopefully give the student that final boost to achieving what they can.
I will also do significant research into exam board requirements and syllabuses in order to provide the most accurate information as to how the student can succeed.
Hopefully this appeals to you. Thank you for reading.
Kind Regards,
Ben Whittle.
