My name is Ben Thompson, I am a 26-year-old Doctoral student, who is studying a PhD in Political Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, specialising in post-Soviet economics, international relations.
I have just under two years of teaching experience, mostly as a tutor for KS2 students at Avenue Primary school in East London, as well as my experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a Year 1 class at an international primary school in Moscow, Russia called English Nursery School (Mosfilm). I also have experience as a temporary teacher in secondary schools.
I like to work closely with the curriculum, textbooks but at a pace suitable for you. Generally, we will look at general topics, or topics requested you would like extra support with. We will find textbook or practice questions, work through a few variations and mark them together. We can mix up topics per class, try new things and circle back to anything you feel needs more time. I will also do regular short tests at the beginning to freshen our memory :)

More about me:
I have recently moved to Barcelona, and I am looking for a role as a part-time remote/online tutor for students of any age but preferably students at KS2 level as this is where most of my experience has been previously. Before studying my PhD, I spent two years working as a Settlement Specialist at Intesa Sanpaolo’s London branch. Here, I gained skills in statistical analysis, assessing financial data reports, problem solving and professional correspondence.
In 2021, I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a first-class Master’s Degree in Russian and Post-Soviet Politics, where I also received a position on the Dean’s List (for top 5% grades of the year). I was a member of a university newspaper called the ‘post-Soviet press society’ and worked in schools throughout this period. Priorly, I graduated a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Goldsmith’s University of London with a 2:1, as well as, experience as President of the New School Economics society.
At a primary school level, I am happy teaching most subjects, including, Maths, English, ReadingI and Science. I am confident I am qualified to a level to tutor secondary (GCSE) subjects such as Maths, Economics, History and Philosophy. At higher education (A-Level/IB), I can teach subjects from Economics and History.

I have been really impressed with Ben as a tutor. His communication has been prompt and efficient. He was well prepared for the session with my son, and had obviously done research ahead of it regarding exam boards and papers. He engaged exceptionally well with my son, so.much so that when the session finished my son said he loved maths! (This isn't something I ever thought I'd hear him say.) From our experience, I highly recommend Ben as a maths tutor.
