My name is Ben Thompson, I am a 26-year-old Doctoral student, who is studying a PhD in Political Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, specialising in post-Soviet economics, international relations and conflict. I have just under two years of teaching experience, mostly as a tutor for KS2 students at Avenue Primary school in East London, as well as my experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a Year 1 class at an international primary school in Moscow, Russia called English Nursery School (Mosfilm). I also have experience as a temporary teacher in secondary schools.
I like to work closely with the curriculum, textbooks but at a pace suitable for you. Generally, we will look at general topics, or topics requested you would like extra support with. We will find textbook or practice questions, work through a few variations and mark them together. We can mix up topics per class, try new things and circle back to anything you feel needs more time. I will also do regular short tests at the beginning to freshen our memory :)
More about me:
I have recently moved to Barcelona, and I am looking for a role as a part-time remote/online tutor for students of any age but preferably students at KS2 level as this is where most of my experience has been previously. Before studying my PhD, I spent two years working as a Settlement Specialist at Intesa Sanpaolo’s London branch. Here, I gained skills in statistical analysis, assessing financial data reports, problem solving and professional correspondence.
In 2021, I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a first-class Master’s Degree in Russian and Post-Soviet Politics, where I also received a position on the Dean’s List (for top 5% grades of the year). I was a member of a university newspaper called the ‘post-Soviet press society’ and worked in schools throughout this period. Priorly, I graduated a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Goldsmith’s University of London with a 2:1, as well as, experience as President of the New School Economics society.
At a primary school level, I am happy teaching most subjects, including, Maths, English, ReadingI and Science. I am confident I am qualified to a level to tutor secondary (GCSE) subjects such as Maths, Economics, History and Philosophy. At higher education (A-Level/IB), I can teach subjects from Economics and History.
