I am experienced in being a personal tutor in Mathematics for a student who gained a place at the University of Cambridge, as well as being a tutor for students in Mathematics, Physics and Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

This involved demonstrating to groups of up to 200 students, as well as personal tuition. I was then also personally requested to be a tutor for a student at part of the disability and dyslexia support service.

I found that students whose first language was not English benefitted particularly from one to one tuition, as they sometimes struggled to understand a lecture which was being given to a large group of students, many of whom were native English speakers.

My experience is in giving PowerPoint presentations, writing lecture notes on a whiteboard, and sitting next to student while they write notes down with a pen and paper.

I have also given presentations to large groups of employees who work in the Information Technology sector for the National Health Service, the financial services industry, and the Ministry of Defence.

Typically I find that when doing 1-2-1 tutorials, the most effective method is to simply ask them what work they have to complete, and assist them with any questions they have. This has been my experience while teaching A-level and University level mathematics. and is how my neighbour, Sam Taylor, gained a place at the University of Cambridge, and I'm sure his parents, who are both head teachers, would be happy to provide me with a reference.
