I have been teaching refugee’s English for almost two years now, I enjoy helping out and volunteer if it means people get something out of it. I have gotten two language GCSE’s and hopefully will get two a levels in languages, it is something that I think everyone should be envolved in. I think that learning another language is needed to day to day life, as there are so many foreigner that did not speak English. Even for travels. It gives a basic respect to the country even if you only learn a few words! It expands you to new culture, food, music, people, it helps you open your mind and eyes to things you could never see before. This is why I want to do languages for university as well. I believe it is needed. I believe it is something that people should peruse not only for their sake but for the people around them, so everyone gets a chance to share what they have learnt about our neighbouring countries. You can’t live in a world filled for different nations only to think that yours is superior, and that your language is more important when theirs is as used and as spoken as yours. Making an effort to learn another language is like telling that country you respect them and that you want to understand their methods and people. Maturing is realising that you can’t give up, just because you don’t see any progress because trust me the progress is there and the realisation will catch up to you, you just need to keep pushing through to see it!
