With over 30 years of teaching experience, I specialize in composition and piano instruction for students of all levels. As Director of Belinda Reynolds Music Studio and an educator at institutions like the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Crowden Music School, I have guided students who have gone on to succeed at prestigious institutions such as Yale and the Curtis School of Music.

In my piano instruction, I utilize the Suzuki method to develop strong technical foundations and musicality, particularly in younger students, helping them cultivate their ear and memory through repetition and nurturing instruction. For composition, I apply the Orff-Schulwerk method, encouraging creativity through rhythm, improvisation, and active, hands-on learning, fostering a joyful and engaging educational environment.

I design my lessons to be highly personalized, focusing on each student’s unique strengths and aspirations, ensuring they build both confidence and a deep understanding of music through composition projects, theoretical exploration, and performance opportunities. I also encourage students to develop their own artistic voice.

Throughout my career, I have worked with students from diverse musical backgrounds and skill levels, offering a flexible and adaptable teaching style that meets each learner where they are. My goal is not only to teach technical skills but also to nurture a lifelong love and appreciation for music, helping students become expressive, confident musicians.

Belinda lives and breathes music and truly embodies in her life all the inspiring principles she teaches. She’s kind, patient, funny and very supportive. She helped me get over my childhood resistance to playing the piano and showed me a whole new approach to composing that feels engaging, fulfilling and sustainable. I just want to keep learning more! Warmly recommended!

As a teacher, creative partner and source of inspiration, Belinda's expertise extends far beyond musicianship and composition, into the vast realm of possibility. Deeply reflective about the creative process itself, Belinda understands students intuitively, deeply and compassionately, which enables her to manifest the best possible conditions for learning and progress. Never heavy-handed, Belinda gently and productively nudges students toward mapping their own musical narrative. Her unspoken principle? Even the most humble, novice student has a musical story to tell. Belinda's genius is in creating space for them to tell that story. Lesson after lesson, Belinda displays an unwavering, joyful belief in her students' potential. As she leads students through the process of discovery in composition, Belinda brings precision, a uniquely fine ear, high standards and, perhaps most important, a sense of excitement in what students have to offer, now and into their futures.

Belinda is an absolutely amazing composition teacher. I studied with her for many years, and she is the reason I was accepted into a Master's program for composition. She's incredibly supportive, patient, and non-judgmental. She will never try to write your piece for you, but rather has a wonderful talent for helping you craft your piece in your own voice. I always left the lesson inspired and excited to write more music. She's also great with younger students, and has fun ideas of how to incorporate creative compositional ideas into her lessons, whether they be for theory, composition, or piano. Highly recommend!
