I enjoy helping children believe that they can do well in maths and English when they may have struggled previously. Learning should feel like something to be enjoyed and not endured.

It maybe that a child just needs to find an alternative way to understand a topic. I adjust the lessons to fit their learning style and needs.
Over the last few years, I have shown many children that they can do maths when they believe they cannot. I build up a relationship with the child and learn how they learn and give them the tools to succeed.
In English I work on building a good foundation of grammar and spelling. Then practise various writing styles. Helping children with reading comprehension and understanding texts is an important part of the sessions.
For children with dyslexia I have used a variety of schemes to assist them with their spellings. These have proved to be very successful.
I have worked with children for whom English is not the family language. This involves plugging gaps from starting school in England at a later stage. I have also helped to provide context for GCSE literature to a student who was unaware of modern British history.
To see children succeed and flourish whilst being happy is my aim as a tutor. All children deserve a chance to achieve their full potential and when they realise how well they can do then I feel I have done my job.
Teaching is my passion and I hope to help as many children as possible.
