Using the experience I have gained throughout my secondary education I am able to combine a multitude of techniques that I have used myself and been recommended to find the most appropriate methods for each student to maximise their revision while maintaining the core skills: essay writing, exam planning and timing, information recall.
With sessions ranging from 30 minutes to 90 min we will focus breaking down texts studied by the students in a way that is focuses on what information is important to the mark schemes and identifying important themes that will be essential to creating a structured and clear essay. This will be balance with looking at exam questions and relating them to the texts and themes discussed in the session and how an essay can be planned to help support students writing structure in timed conditions.
At the start of each session I will ask the student to summarise work they have done in classes to help guide the session, but also what they would like to focus on to find an appropriate compromise. I may also ask students to review questions and write essays in their own time that they will send to me, this means sessions can provide direct feedback and tips on how to improve, this will only be done if the student feels comfortable with additional work (if not I may ask to see class work to grasp what skills need improvement and the strengths they already have).
