I have recently graduated with a Masters in Gender, Violence and Conflict where I received a Distinction. My focus has been on forced migration, refugees, gender-based violence and ethnic conflicts. Over the course of my two degrees, I have honed critical thinking skills and have learned how to successfully incorporate them into my essays. I have a very easy going attitude but I will also challenge my students to think outside the box and challenge their own perceptions on topics - in my experience, this is a key skill required to do well in a subject like sociology. I have informal experience with helping students with essay writing and providing constructive feedback whichI will do so with my students as well. I am an extremely patient person and want my students to feel comfortable with asking questions and even challenging me!
While I like to tailor lessons to each student's needs, the general format of a lesson would be: - Introduction to the topic: summarise the theory, relevance to contemporary life - Dive into theories: Explain theories in more depth, refer to key texts, present critiques - Interactive Discussions: I will pose a question and apply the theory to a current situation - Compare and critique theories - Provide feedback on essay writing
Each lesson will address areas students need more help with, the lesson plan will be tailored to the students - I don't believe one specific structure works for all students so I am very flexible with my teaching style. I am always open to feedback and will make necessary changes where possible.
