You will be able to incorporate more diverse classroom activities and content into classes. For example:

Instead of a whiteboard you’ll use an on-screen interactive board.
Rather than handing out documents, you’ll create digital collaborative documents shared amongst the class.
If you use video content, you won’t play one video to the class, but rather students will watch from a link.
You can also bring realia into the lessons, but you will show this to students via your video.
Face-to-face:

In the physical classroom, you’ll have your own approach to student engagement and class delivery. You may follow a textbook, use handouts, move students around in groups, or deliver explanations in a traditional lecture-style way.

Similarly, you may choose to incorporate audio, video content, and interactive games. You would use the interactive white board to show these to your students.

Bringing realia into the classroom works well in a face-to-face setting as students can handle and interact with it.

Classroom management

Online

As you will not physically be in the same room as your students, you’ll need to set class rules that reflect your new learning environment.

In this setting, you may come across challenges with learners such as secret chats, surfing the net, limited observation, and in some cases, trolling. You may also find that students talk all at once which disrupts the audio.

In this case, you could:

Ask students to work in a distraction-free or quiet environment when possible.
Have students mute their microphones while you’re talking.
Asking them to close all other tabs.
Keep cameras on.
Tell students they must ask for permission to leave.
Instruct them that any chat conversations must be between the whole class (or the groups you put them in).
Face-to-face

The classroom management issues you face will be familiar – and quite different from those you’ll face online.

For example, you might see learners passing notes, looking at their phones, talking over you, chewing gum in class, eating or drinking, and leaving the room without permission.

You can set class rules to deal with these, and be more able to remove possible distractions in the classroom.
