Hi there! I have worked in secondary education for approximately 20 years. I started working as a learning mentor with students in an Alternative Provision then moved into mainstream schools and trained as a teacher. I gained QTS in 2010 and was recognised as an outstanding teacher when completing my GTTP. Over the course of my career I have enjoyed working at a senior level in secondary schools (in London and beyond) and was a headteacher for 3 years leading a school to the best GCSE results in their history.
I have taught a broad range of subjects in both AP/Mainstream settings and now want to start tutoring so I can spend more time with my young children and essentially a better work life balance.
I teach with a lot of dynamism, humour and patience - it is my firm belief that every student has the ability to exceed their own expectations - but its vitally important to take one step at a time and set short, sharp achievable goals to improve confidence. I specialise in teaching Maths, RE, Science and the humanities - using a mixture of online resources with quality textbooks to ensure that learning is interesting, engaging and at a good pace - time should fly when you are learning and I am teaching!
Due to my own experience I have a range of contacts throughout schools and colleges in the UK - so if there are specific resources that might be required for a specific subject I can find these and tailor them to suit our lessons.
As my experience of UK education originated from the pastoral sector - I am always conscious about students learning about the 'why' and 'how' in regard to their subjects - so they can see the point of learning specific skills and realise how these can be applied to everyday life. Good teaching is not necessarily about getting good grades (which is an added bonus) but more about engaging students and nurturing a life long love for learning - something which I am lucky enough to have due to the amazing teachers I have had in my life.
