I am a PhD student and tutor at the University of Aberdeen. I am responsible for running multiple tutorials in the Celtic and Anglo-Saxon Centre and the History Department, working with small groups of students and also engaging in pastoral support on an individual basis. My tutorials and lessons are meant to be engaging and analytical in order to let students reach their full potential. They centre around interactive discussion and group presentation, alongside foundational reading and writing comprehension. As they are introductory classes, I set goals to introduce students to new concepts while promoting a learning environment that provides foundational introductions to new practices. While my focus is on history and language, I prize foundations in English learning, both in terms of communication and writing assessment, following UK standards at university level as a way to launch students onto their undergraduate and professional careers. I have a background in these skills and an eye for research comprehension. I believe it is best to allow students to develop skills in critical thinking while also having an ability to apply these skills in a way that demonstrates their attentiveness and willingness to go beyond simply writing papers. These skills are life skills, meant to be applied to not just their work as students, but also as people willing to engage with the wider world, demonstrating their talents and understanding, alongside reaching out to their fellow students and teachers. I hope to provide as comprehensive a background and skillset for all those looking for support and guidance in their studies.
