At university, I am studying for an MA in Linguistics. I enjoy looking at the patterns both between and within languages and exploring how they have evolved. I have always found exams to be difficult in comparison to working in class, so I have found ways to balance that gap, for example doing and redoing practice papers in preparation. I plan to also teach ballet and piano at university as they are both activities that let me take a break from academic study, and I am in the process of doing my teaching qualification for ballet.

I hope to share my enthusiasm for the subject with the student and create an open and friendly atmosphere, in which all questions are always valid. In the first lesson, I plan to map out the areas that the student is struggling with by working through a past paper or mixed questions. Over the next lessons, we will go through the topics that the student finds difficult using practice questions and demonstrating example solutions. I prefer to begin with an example that we can work through together, before allowing the student to attempt questions on their own. This allows the student to gradually understand the process of answering maths questions.

I have over two years of maths tutoring experience in both 1 to 1 and 3 to 1 teaching settings, teaching Key Stage 3 and GCSE level students. My GCSE level students have been awarded 1 to 2 grades above their predicted grade after being tutored by me. I also have experience teaching Latin (to primary school students), music and ballet.
