I have previously tutored secondary and A-Level students in Biology. My tutoring style involves an introductory session to discuss the students learning style and to aid me in deducing what tutorial methods work best for the student and what they are aiming to achieve from the sessions. I also provide educational resources such a past papers, youtube videos, worksheets and even my own notes. Having younger siblings means I’m also familiar with tutoring younger students, and a similar outline is followed with parents being involved in the introductory sessions. For example, I typically use a 15:30:15 or 10:40:10 outline for 1hr sessions. With the first 10/15 minutes for recap of the the previous session and usually an activity based on the current session to gauge knowledge level, and the final 10/15 minutes for the student to show their understanding of the topic through worksheets, quizzes and presentations. The main 30/40 minutes of the session and pre-prepared notes or presentations to delve into the topic focusing on the student’s level and what concepts they are struggling with. I am also available to use sessions for homework/ assignment/ project help. I expect the focus of the sessions to be disclosed beforehand to ensure efficient use of time and that I can work to the best of my ability. My lesson material is all digitally available and completely accessible at all times throughout tutorials and thereafter. I look forward to working with students who are looking for a broader understanding of biology and how best to approach examination style questions and answer them.
