I like to run focused study sessions where I help students with both learning content and practising exam technique. I believe that it is important to build student's confidence in their economic knowledge as that confidence often manifests itself in the form of higher level essay responses. Furthermore, I think it is pivotal that students try to figure things out for themselves as no one will be in the exam room with them come summer, hence why I ask them to do a lot of pre-reading.
Not only do I help students become good GCSE level economists, but I also try to extend their learning beyond the taught curriculum so that they are able to easily make the step up to A Level economics if they wish to do so. I do this through getting students to look at real life examples of economic situations and encouraging them to use this knowledge in their essays.
I have an extensive knowledge of the OCR (J205) GCSE economics specification though I am potentially able to help students with other exam boards if required. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE economics and I have just completed A Level economics which means that I have an accurate and nuanced knowledge of the course.
Being a student myself, I have found it easier to empathise with student's problems and I can adapt my teaching methods in order to suit their needs which should facilitate their academic development as quickly as possible. This may mean that we focus more on microeconomics than macroeconomics or that we may spend more time on essay technique.
