I like to incorporate aspects of French culture (articles, literary passages etc) into my teaching, and base my lessons on a general discussion of these topics. It is vital that the pupil tries to reflect and converse over such topics, and I will further divide the lesson into a grammatical break down of key elements in the text. In my experience, we learn languages most efficiently when we are actively expressing our thoughts and opinions on real aspects of the world. My lessons will therefore resist being abstract and dull, instead focusing on dynamic methods of learning such as debating and analytical discussion. My role as a teacher is to patiently avoid over complicating grammatical structures whilst nonetheless challenging the pupil to actively think and reflect in French, which carries over outside of the lesson.
In the past I have had 1:1 tutoring, and found that the most crucial element was the teacher's ability to spark a curious interest in the pupil. I therefore try to offer a refreshing perspective with profound knowledge in French literature, philosophy, art, as well as current topics such as politics and ideological debates. In this regard, I hope to ignite the students passion with fruitful conversation that will have them reflecting after the lesson has finished. Alternatively however, I am open to suggestions am and more than willing to help a student with an aspect of the language that they bring to the class. I look forward to seeing you soon, à bientôt !
