I have a Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Communication. My native language is Spanish and my experience helping others with this subject comes from my studies at the university (University of Arts ISA in Havana, Cuba).
Depending on the language level of the student, I like to take a topic (of interest to the student) and discuss it. I believe this is the best way to make the mind think and focus on something other than language. When people talk about things they are passionate about, they usually forget about everything else, including shyness, pronunciation, or vocabulary; then the language (and conversation) begins to flow more naturally.
If the student is new to Spanish lessons, I have found that the graphic/visual aid is the most helpful for creating concepts rather than memorized words. Whether it's a one-on-one tutoring session for a beginner or an experienced student, I'm always happy to help someone improve their Spanish. I pay attention to details like pronunciation, grammar, punctuation; and I enjoy finding fun facts to help turn the learning process into one more opportunity to have a good time and expand general knowledge.
Every person is different and has its own strenghts and needs. That's why I like to find what the student's unique need (or interest) is, in order to create effective personalized one-on-one sessions. No class or practice will be the same. The only common factor will be to enjoy learning Spanish!
