Lessons with me tend to be more interactive than anything; built around the strengths and interests of the students. For example, if you're a more visual learner then we'll incorporate more videos and flashcards into our lessons amongst other visual aids. We will establish these strengths and interests by first getting to know and understand each other so building rapport is a key part of how I tutor.
In my decade of tutoring, i have noticed that simplifying something for a person (young or old) is the best way to get them to understand what you're saying. I started out helping primary school kids with Maths at an orphanage in Lagos, Nigeria. Since then, I have gone on to tutor at A-Level, university level and privately also. I have experience working with SEN students as well and students in the care system.
This, amongst my other experiences have highlighted for me how important patience is when tutoring. Therefore, during my lessons, we tend to move at the pace of the learner's understanding which will vary from student to student. Learners can be sure that they will not be rushed through topics with me as their understanding is the main priority of the lessons and not racing through a syllabus.
When delivering lessons I tend to generally use what I call E.D.E which stands for 'Example, Discussion, Exercise'. After introducing a topic, I will give examples of what I am explaining and then we will discuss the topic. Once the learner understands the topic through our discussion and example shown, they will try their hand at exercises around that topic to further gauge their understanding. This will vary from learner to learner of course and adjustments will be made accordingly.
I offer the following subjects: Maths, English, Business Studies, French and Economics all up to A-Level.
