As someone who has previous experience mentoring young people, I have found, understanding what teaching methods work best for each pupil, provides the best results both academically and in confidence. I take a more relaxed approach to teaching since i feel that respect and trust is vital to maximising academic potential and engagement with students. Typical lessons are an hour but can be extended to 1.5 and 2 hour lessons if requested. I have previous experience tutoring GCSE R.E, History, English language and English literature, A-level History, Politics and R.E. My lessons will be available for all the previously listed subject areas and level, with an initial meeting to discuss what areas the student would like to work on, what they struggle with and what they enjoy.

At the beginning i will set some basic exam style questions to gain a greater understanding of what areas the student struggles/excels in. I will then guide the student through the process of answering the questions before them whilst referring to exam mark schemes and requirements. i have found that a comprehensive understanding of mark schemes allows students to focus on the task at hand and approach exams methodically. In my personal experience this helps when feeling anxious or nervous about exams since a calculated approach allows students to filter out unnecessary information and put into practice what they have learnt. If there is a particular area that a student struggles with, i find that breaking down problem into smaller tasks prevents a student form becoming overwhelmed and allows them to fully understand the subject matter.


I like to offer advice on study strategies, time management, and motivation to help a student succeed, offering tools that i have personally used to help me get through exam season. Regular feedback and progress checks are hence really important when offering advice. This way, you can see your improvement and identify areas for further growth whilst celebrating achievements and building confidence. I encourage curiosity and asking questions as i find open debate and conversation stimulates a natural desire and love for learning.
