I like to talk through questions with my students, to really understand what level of understanding they have. I prefer a conversational teaching method, to ensure everything is clear. I found this worked well for me during my time as a tutor for Explore Learning. It really helped my students and I to build a trusting environment, and this helped create a positive learning environment for my students. This really helped their understanding, as they felt more comfortable asking questions and I understood their concerns more, and was more able to track ongoing development.
My lessons would be from around 45 minutes to an hour and a half, as any less than this can be unproductive and any more than that can be overly taxing and makes it hard to concentrate. I would be happy to look over one or two pieces of work in between lessons, but I wouldn’t recommend this for younger children.
I am confident teaching up to a National 5 level, but any text based work would need prior informing so that I can be best prepared. I can help with essay writing, and checking over essays, but nothing in depth for folio pieces being submitted to the SQA.
